Introducing Saskatoon’s First Bluegrass Jam Camp and Old Time Dance!
Mark Your Calendars: November 11-12, 2023

🪕 Unlock the Rhythms of Bluegrass and Old Time Music!

Join us for a weekend of musical instruction and camaraderie at the very first Saskatoon Bluegrass Jam Camp November 11th and 12th, 2023, a special fundraiser hosted by the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society. This exciting event, taking place on November 11th and 12th, 2023, at The Saskatoon Academy of Music, offers a unique opportunity for music enthusiasts of all levels to come together, learn, and jam while supporting a great cause.

How Jam Camp Works

Our camp is designed to offer you a unique and immersive experience in the world of bluegrass and old-time music. Here’s how it all works:

1. 📚Choose Your Classes

  • We offer a tantalizing “bluegrass menu” of five different classes, catering to a range of skill levels and interests. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to fine-tune your skills, there’s a class for you.

2. 📚Customize Your Weekend

  • Tailor your Jam Camp experience by selecting the classes that resonate with you the most. Each class runs for one hour, and over the course of the weekend, you’ll attend 4 classes you choose.

3. 🌟Skill-Level Groups

  • To ensure you get the most out of your classes, we divide students into skill-level groups. Whether you’re a novice, an intermediate player, or an advanced musician, you’ll be placed in a group that matches your abilities.

4. 🪕Special Interest Workshops

  • Dive deeper into the nuances of bluegrass and old-time music through our special interest workshops. Led by expert instructors, these sessions cover a variety of topics.

5. 🎵Jamming Sessions

  • Jamming is at the heart of bluegrass and old-time music. Join facilitated bluegrass, old-time, and slow jams throughout the weekend. These sessions provide the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow musicians, put your news skills to work and create unforgettable musical moments.

6. 💃Fundraiser Night

  • On the evening of Saturday November 11th, we invite you to our Old Time Dance Fundraiser at the All Saints’ Anglican Church. This lively event is the highlight of the weekend and a chance to let loose on the dance floor. Enjoy live music, bid on exciting items in our silent auction, savor your favorite beverages at the bar, and try your luck with our thrilling 50/50 draws. Your participation directly supports the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society, ensuring that we can continue sharing the joy of music throughout the year.

7. 🤝Make a Difference

  • These events are not just about music; they are a vital source of funding for our society. Your generous donations and participation in the fundraiser go a long way in helping us sustain our mission of preserving and promoting bluegrass and old-time music in our community.

We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 2023 Music Camp and Festival. We would like to express our sincerest thanks to everyone who came out to support this incredible event. Over the course of the festival, we were treated to an array of exceptional musical performances, inspiring talks and workshops, and a vibrant community of music lovers and professionals. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of all the talented musicians, organizers, volunteers, and sponsors who helped make this year’s festival a resounding success.
Highlights include happy reunion and tearful goodbye of ‘Happy Trails, Prospector’, The dancing of Martha Spencer, horse drawn wagon rides, puppet making workshop, the Northern Lights merch tie dye station, stargazing sky tour, and I think for most, it was when everyone moved indoors on Saturday night for the dance. The hall was so full there was barely room to fit but the bar was run dry and everyone had the best time! The sun came out in full force on Sunday and the stage filled with everyone and anyone singing along to a goodbye song. It was our best year yet and we look forward to seeing you all again next year for an even bigger and better festival experience.

Mark your calendars for next year’s dates

From exclusive discounts and access to workshops and events, to the ability to participate in the AGM and serve on the board, you don’t want to miss out.
